Rain prevented any play in the morning session on Day Four of the second Test between England and Sri Lanka at Lord's, with the umpires taking an early lunch.

That means if there is no further rain, play could start immediately after the break pending a further inspection from the umpires.

An improving forecast for the afternoon suggests plenty of play could still be possible but, because the teams were also kept off the field by bad weather for almost two full sessions on Sunday, the prospect of a positive result is diminishing.

Sri Lanka have reached 372 for three in their first-innings reply to England's 486 - and with under two days' play remaining, it was increasingly hard to see either team forcing a result.

England currently lead the three-match npower series 1-0.
